The course is point to point with a turn around at the 32.5km mark. The route covers three local goverment areas, starting in Liverpool City, runners will then go through Fairfield City and finally finishing at Blacktown Olympic Park (Blacktown City). Runners will run through the following suburbs: Prestons, Hinchinbrook, Hoxton Park, Cecil Park, Horsley Park, Eastern Creek, Rooty Hill, Glendenning, Plumpton, Oakhurst, Dean Park & Quakers Hill.

The race route is Athletics Australia Certified Accurate. The Westlink M7 Cities Marathon is also a member of the Association of International Marathons & Distance Races (AIMS), therefore this race can be used as a qualifier for other Australian & International Marathons/Ultra Distance Races.

The 2010 Westlink M7 Cities Marathon will incorporate the Sydney Marathon Clinic Club Race Championship.

The race starts on Ash Road, Prestons just outside Liverpool City Robins Sports Club. At Camden Valley Way runners then turn left onto the footpath and left again onto the start of the Westlink shared pathway. From here, runners continue on a traffic free uninterrupted journey to the turn around point (32.5km) at Quakers Hill. Runners then head back to exit off at the 41km mark at Eastern Road, Rooty Hill. Runners run down Eastern Road and then turn left into Blacktown Olympic Park. Runners follow path to athletics track and finish in front of the main granstand of the Blacktown Olympic Park Athletics Facility.

Some quotes from runners in relation to the Westlink M7 Cities Marathon course;

"Undulating and an interesting course".

"Great drink stations with plenty of GU Energy Gels".

"The steeper hills are around the 10km mark".

"The first 7km are dead flat except for a couple of over passes. There is a gentle steady climb from 7km to just beyond 11km...nothing steep then 2km of a bit up and down. If anything these early hills are good to keep your pace down. From 14km to finish its pretty flat except again for a few over passes".

"This a good variation from the continuous cadence of flat marathons. If you look at comparative times of people who have run there I would say there is very little difference to their flat times".

"Virtually all the hills are in the first half and the 2nd half just rolls along gently up and down with some decent fast sections in between. Go out at a sensible, relatively conservative pace till you knock over the last of the steep hills (the long constant haul around Elizabeth Drive) saving yourself for the 2nd half so you can up your pace accordingly and you should be fine. Using this approach in 2007 I knocked 7 minutes off my PB (3.13) and in 2008 knocked another 3 minutes off to get it down to 3.10 and that was 3 weeks after I ran the GCM where I could manage 3.13".

"There is a slight pinch at 31.5km just before the turn point at Quakers Hill".

"Every kilometre is marked throughout the course".

"Good course for a first marathon and for setting a personal best".

The surface is 98% bitumen with 2% concrete surface bridges. There are 12 drink stations on the course.

After the 2009 Westlink M7 Cities Marathon, 46 runners out of the 177 Marathon finishers ran a personal best marathon time. 21 runners also completed their first ever marathon and 18 runners have completed all Westlink M7 Cities Marathons from 2006-2009.

In the last 4 years, the race has also attracted runners from all over Australia and overseas. The Marathon race is also supported by the Marathon Relay for 2 runners. Each runner completes the certified half marathon distance of 21.1km. Both runners will have their times recorded individually and as a team. The Kids Marathon Series is also back again for school age children. More information by clicking on the Kids Marathon Page.
