Map and Directions

The Long Reach Swim is now 9km in length, downstream and features one lock!

The River Thames is an iconic landmark stretching from the Gloucestershire countryside, through the Home Counties and the City of London to open out into the Thames Estuary. The history along this extraordinary river is immense, and many sporting feats have been achieved along its length. It's an incredibly popular river for swimming, and we'll be taking in the beautiful lock free reach between Wallingford & Goring.

Swim HQ & Car Parking

The Long Reach Swim HQ is at Crowmarsh Recreation Ground, but ALL swim car parking will be at the nearby Howbery Business Park. Once you've parked up, it's a short walk to HQ.

At swim HQ you can find the registration area, along with toilets, showers and refreshments.

We are delighted this year to be finishing the swim further downstream at The Swan at Streatley.

Swim Times & Groups

We are likely to have three swim groups, starting at 8.00am, 8.15am & 8.30am respectively. The first group will be for the swimmers with slower predicted times, with the fastest swimmers in group 3. This is subject to some changes, and swim groups and your start times will be confirmed on Monday August 14th.

Water Temperature & Wetsuits

We are anticipating water temperatures in the region of 17-18 degrees, but this could vary widely dependant upon conditions in the build up. The swim isn’t wetsuit compulsory, whilst the majority will use a wetsuit we appreciate skins swimmers will want to go without; you’ll be asked about this whilst entering. It will be, however, compulsory to swim with a tow float. More information on these is found under the Tow Floats tab at the top of the page.

The 2018 Long Reach charity is the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, and you'll have opportunity to make a donation to this great cause whilst entering the swim. All local Air Ambulance rescue missions leave from RAF Benson, around a mile from our swim start, so it's especially relevant that we assist them this year.
