Marc Laithwaite

Marc has been racing triathlon in the North West region for 30 years. He originally worked as a lecturer in sports science and spent time working with British Triathlon and British Cycling. He left his role as a lecturer to start coaching and founded The Endurance Coach, a sports science and coaching business.

He later went on to found The Endurance Store and Epic Events who organise events throughout the North West, including Lakeland 100. He also founded EpicKidz, a charity which is funded by Epic Events and donates to various community causes throughout the North West.

He has been involved in coaching for 25 years, working with both adults and children, including the NW regional academy role. He still competes and in 2017 & 2018 finished 1st in category at Ironman UK, winning the V45 title.

Dr Ian Boardley

Dr Boardley is a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and is internationally known for his expertise on the psychosocial processes governing moral behaviour in physical activity contexts. This work includes moral behaviours that occur on the sports field (e.g., prosocial and antisocial behaviour), as well as those that occur in sport, exercise, and dance (use of image and performance enhancing drugs). Ian’s research has been supported by funding from the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Olympic Committee and the Economic and Social Research Council. Ian has further research interests in coaching efficacy and effectiveness, and how athletes' perceptions of their coach influence athletes’ cognitions, emotions, and behaviour.

Ian is a competitive ultra runner and Ironman competitor. He will be discussing pre-race preparation, how to beat anxiety and execute your best performance on race day.
